When my friend Skippy first asked me to be his wedding photographer, I was ecstatic – as a lover of wedding photography, there’s nothing more meaningful than being present to document a friend’s wedding day. Upfront as always, Skippy quickly warned me about the perils of taking on an Indian wedding for the first time, to which I stared blankly back at him. As he laid out some of the traditional ceremonies that would take place during his wedding week, it slowly dawned on me..
Nearly five thousand photos by my assistant photographer Hanako and myself later, I finally appreciate why Skippy felt so compelled to explain in detail – Indian weddings are considerably more intricate than typical Western weddings, involving even more traditional ceremonies than the Asian/Chinese weddings I’m so familiar with. Even as I write this entry belatedly, this wedding commission still stands as my largest Toronto wedding assignment to date.
Skippy – thank you for always having my back all these years. I’m truly honoured to have been your wedding photographer and this is one wedding that I’ll always remember proudly.
